Akron, Ohio- Another Saturday, another showing at Green Street Stadium from the boys in blue (or white...depending on the day).

Akron City FC (ACFC) is preparing to defend its position within the top three of the Great Lakes standings. On Saturday, June 15, ACFC will host Flower City Union (FCU) on the campus of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School at Green Street Stadium.

The two teams are currently holding onto league play winning streaks with ACFC's sitting at two games and FCU's at a Great Lakes best of three.

Back on Sunday, June 9, ACFC competed in the semifinal round of Region II in the USASA Amateurs Cup. With high hopes of continuing to make their way through cup competition, the team competed hard through 120 minutes of action.

Unfortunately, in a 12-goal outing, the team fell, 7-5.

The club's stellar offensive production was led by forward Sam Sarver who buried two goals in the loss.

Prior to the loss in the cup, ACFC had taken down Niagara 1812, 5-0, on Wednesday, June 5. That win saw numerous individuals get into the scoring column, such as forwards Stefan Dobrijevic and Ryan Kingsford, midfielder Jannis Schmidt and defender Daniel Lacerda.

They then went on to play Michigan Rangers FC just four days later on Saturday, June 8, where they found a win with a 3-2 scoreline.

Both wins paved way for a chance to find continued success in the USASA Amateurs Cup, but playing three games in five days certainly was no easy task.

They will look to return to winning forms Saturday against FCU.

About Flower City Union

The 2024 campaign marks the first stint in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) for FCU.

In the 2023 season, they participated in the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA). Through 24 total matches played, they amassed a record of 8-3-13 which placed them sixth in the league table.

Their goal differential sat at a mark of 30 scored and 34 allowed for -4 on the year.

When joining the NPSL, they were given a rude awakening in the opening two games. They opened up the season against Steel City FC where they lost 3-0. After the opening game, they played Steel City FC again, falling by an even bigger margin: 5-0.

However, since the team’s opening two losses, they have bounced back.

They defeated SIGFC 4-3, Niagara 1812 5-0 and Erie Commodores 3-2. With a three game winning streak under their belt heading into the game against ACFC, they are sitting high on confidence.

Both teams should be at peak form on Saturday, as they both look to continue climbing the league table and maintaining win streaks.

The outing between ACFC and FCU is set to begin at 7:00 P.M. EST from Green Street Stadium in Akron, Ohio. For ticket purchases, use the link below:
